Software bundled with the Clie:

Address Book / Date Book / Memo / Todo
These applications are included in the Clie ROM, and are identical to those included on other PalmOS PDA, except the following improvements:
  • They all support the jogdial, useful to scroll screens or other operations traditionally done by the up/down arrows)
  • The Address Book application allow to display a picture with each entry.
  • On the new PEG-N700C, those applications are natively in high resolution (320x320) and display a finer image hence finer / more readable fonts.

gMedia Download the English (374 Kb) or Japanese (1.03 Mb) version
Version: 1.1 Interface: Documentation:
This software isn't included in the Clie ROM, you'll find it either on the supplied MemoryStick (if bundled with the Clie) or on the bundled CDROM. You need to install it in RAM before being able to use it. There is an updated version available either in English or in Japanese.
gMedia is a video player, and can display video previously converted in the appropriate format by the PictureGear Lite software found on the bundled CDROM. You must first transfer the videos in the Clie RAM during a hotsync, then optionally move them to the MemoryStick to save some RAM. (Alternatively, you can copy the video .pdb files directly on the MemoryStick with the help of a MemoryStick adapter (floppy, PCMCIA or USB model exist). The trick is to store the video in the /PALM/PROGRAMS/gMedia directory on the MemoryStick (you'll have to create this directory if it doesn't exist yet).

PictureGear Pocket
Version: 1.0 Interface: Documentation:
This software isn't included in the Clie ROM, you'll find it either on the supplied MemoryStick (if bundled with the Clie) or on the bundled CDROM. You need to install it in RAM before being able to use it.
PictureGear is a picture viewer, which can display any picture that has been converted by the PictureGear Lite program found on the bundled CDROM. You must first transfer the pictures in the Clie RAM during a hotsync, then optionally move them on the MemoryStick to save some RAM.
(Alternatively, you can copy the pictures .pdb files directly on the MemoryStick with the help of a MemoryStick adapter (floppy, PCMCIA or USB model exist). The trick is to store the video in the /PALM/PROGRAMS/picturegear directory on the MemoryStick (you'll have to create this directory if it doesn't exist yet).
Keep in mind that only the pictures stored in RAM can be displayed in the Address Book, and that PictureGear Pocket must also reside in RAM to be used by the Address Book application to display the pictures...

MS Gate Download the English (165 Kb) or Japanese (75 Kb) updated version
Version: 1.1 (2.0 en japonais) Interface: Documentation:
This software is included in its 1.0 version in the Clie ROM (PEG-S300 et PEG-S500C). You can download an updated (1.1) version in English or Japanese. The 1.1 version brings the ability to chose the working directory on the MemoryStick (3 possible directories instead of just one for the 1.0 version). The default directory is PALM/PROGRAMS/MSFILES, and any file you'll copy in this directory will always be accessible (via MS Gate) even after a hard reset. Should you create other directories, those will not be accessible by MS Gate.
A word of warning: this software requires that you have sufficient free RAM when you copy a file from the MemoryStick to the RAM: you need at least twice the size of the file you want to copy. For instance, if you want to copy a 1 Mb file from MemoryStick to RAM, you need at least 2 Mb of free RAM before starting the copy... :-(
Note for Microsoft-haters: this program's name has nothing to do with Bill Gate and his firm: MS is for Memory Stick, not Microsoft, and Gate is what makes the junction between the RAM (inside) and the MemoryStick (outside)... Phew! ;-)

MS Autorun Download the English (305 Kb) or Japanese (261 Kb) version
Version: 1.0 Interface: Documentation:
This software isn't included in the Clie ROM, but you can download either the English or Japanese version. What it does is automatically run (after copying it to RAM) a given application that resides on a MemoryStick, each time you insert that MemoryStick in your Clie. The application's databases can also be copied to RAM in the process, but any change made to those databases while they reside in RAM will be lost when you exit the application, as these databases are not save back on the MemoryStick when exiting, they're just deleted from RAM along with the application. You should therefore only use MS Autorun with read only databases (pictures or video display for instance).

USBSwitcher Download the English (709 Kb) or Japanese (598 Kb) 1.1 updater
Version: 1.1 Interface: Documentation:

This is the small add-on program that allow you to use the standard Palm Desktop to synchronize your Clie despite its USB cradle. This software is included on the bundled CDROM, but there's an updater to 1.1 version available for download either in English or Japanese.
Note: this is just an updater, you need the original 1.0 USBSwitcher.exe. Thank you Sony :-(
