What's new? (April 2002 Archives)

Wednesday April 10th, 2002: two new Clié devices, and a small site update...
First of all, sorry for the long time lapse since the last site update. Truth to be told, the increasing number of Clié compatible applications leads me to consider PHP/MySQL to ease the site reading and updating. Only problem: I'll have to learn that, and I'll need free time as well... :-(

Sony has recently announced two new devices, the PEG-NR70 and the PEG-NR70V. The only difference between those two units is the additionnal builtin digital camera on the PEG-NR70V. Otherwise, the PEG-NR70 is a truly innovative device, with a two-parts (clamshell) foldable design. On the upper part, a color 320x480 screen featuring at last a virtual Graffiti area, like on the Handera 330), and on the lower part there's an qwerty keyboard in addition to the usual applications buttons and up/down arrows. This keyboard can be folded on the back of the PEG-NR70 in order to use the Clié like the previous models (using the Graffiti area), the screen is then automatically reversed upside down. The PEG-NR70 has builtin MP3/ATRAC3 capabilities similar to the PEG-N7x0C, and (like the PEG-T6xxC) a boosted infrared port and a LED alarm. The connector format is the same as on the PEG-T6xxC. Last but not least, the PEG-NR70V includes a builtin digital camera located on the device hinge. Its lens can turn to face either forward or backward (or anything in between), and the camera can take pictures up to 320x240 pixels maximum.

The PEG-NR70 will cost 499 US$ (date of release unknown in the US, probably mid May 2002), and 49800 JP¥ in Japan (released on March 23rd, 2002).

The PEG-NR70V est annoncé pour 599 US$ (release date May 4th, 2002) in the US, and 59800 JP¥ in Japan (release date April 13th, 2002).
