What's new? (November 2001 archives)

Monday November 19th, 2001: Sony releases two new Clié devices!

Remember the last news item, about the PEG-T415 announce by Sony? Well, they have announced yet another device. Or more exactly two new devices, to be released on December 8th in Japan.
The first device is the PEG-T400, the Japanese equivalent of the PEG-T415, i.e. a small form-factor monochrome high resolution device.
The second device, and the more interesting one to be honest, is the future PEG-T600C. This one will be similar to the PEG-T400 except that it will feature a color screen (320 x 320 and 65536 colors, of course). This makes it a really compact color device (smaller than the Palm m505, same weight), with the same dimensions than the T400/T415, except the depth that increase from 0.99 cm to an acceptable 1.25 cm. The weight of the T600C is also slightly more than those of the T400/T415, with 138g instead of 122g.
Both the T400 and T600C feature the enhanced sound and infrared, the led and vibrating alarms, the new high resolution launcher, a new world clock application, a remote control application, the Document To Go suite... There will be an optional audio module to clip on the T400/T600C connector to give him MP3 capabilities as well, if needed.
One interesting thing is also that Sony will release a T600C sleeve that fits on the back of the device and allows the use of a compactflash modem. And as far as accessories go, the following MemoryStick modules will be available in December as well: a digital camera and a GPS MemoryStick!
